Raoul Marius Chagny
“Hullo… the wall is a looking-glass!”
OOC: Hey, I'm Leffie, and I'm FINALLY 18! WOOHOO! Other characters include just Sebastian Martin at the moment, and I love you all. <3
Canon: The Phantom of the Opera
Face-claim: Eddie Redmayne
Social Status: High Class. Raoul was born into a wealthy, old family of aristocrats that are related distantly to royalty. Lives very well off in mansions, penthouses and summer homes whenever his family fancies a change of scenery. Would be elite like his brother, except he's not interested in any sort of business ventures.
Occupation: Raoul is literally a spoiled little rich boy (he has no occupation other than being rich).
Age: 19
Appearance: "People say I look adorable, but I don't know what they're talking about. I just like comfy sweaters."
Raoul can most definitely be described as adorable. Cute, fluffy, pinch-his-cheeks adorable. It's not because of how he looks, really, but how he acts. He always has the widest smile, with bright eyes that see the world in an innocent way. He was raised mostly by his two sisters and his aunt, so he's lived a very sheltered life under the care of women. Most would call him too effeminate, and has been mistaken for gay many times (don't make him count the number of times a guy gave him his number and he looked clueless; you can't count on BOTH hands).
He is a very handsome young man, however, even though he's just barely become an adult. He's lost the chubbiness of youth, finally, much to his sisters' dismay. His hair used to be a darker brown, but since he spends most of his time outside it has lightened to a brown and honey colored mix. His eyes are a mostly-green hazel, and are always wide and kind looking. He has odd looking lips that got made fun of around the playground, but not too often because of how influential and powerful his family is. Unlike his fairer skinned family members, he has a good bit of freckles dotting his face, also. He's quite lanky, but he does a bit of sports so he has some light muscle.
Dressing wise, Raoul as an aristocrat usually has to wear proper suits and evening wear to formal events. When he's on his own, however, he likes to wear sweaters and blazers and nice, expensive scarves with designer pants and jeans. You won't find department store clothing anywhere in his closet, not because he's against it, it's just his and his family's way of life. His brother insists that he wants for nothing, including fine clothing. He does have a soft spot for sneakers, but only the most expensive kind.
Overall Personality: Incredibly happy, often clueless, too innocent for his own good, and mostly stubborn is how one would describe Raoul Marius Chagny. He is a very kind person, but he is trusting far too easily. He puts all his faith in his older brother, who he believes will always do right by him (though he doesn't always agree with his traditional values). He is like a young boy barely become a man, only just getting his feet wet in the real world, having been sheltered so long.
Since Raoul was practically raised by his two sisters, he has a rather sweet and girlish nature that gets him teased in the social circles he's required participate in. His classmates in his private school often called him Marie, instead of the masculine Marius. He just sort of goes along with it though. He doesn't get offended by those things, as he figures it's all in good fun. He has this sort of slightly dense nature when it comes to these things. He's not stupid, by any means, in fact he's actually rather a bright student, and he likes to learn. But he would most definitely be considered socially awkward, and he lacks a lot of common sense. But then again a lot of rich boys do...
Raoul also loves adventure. He's been begging his brother to send him around the world, but Philippe keeps saying that he is too young (one of the few things he denies him). Upon graduating his private high school, however, he just took a long cruise to the Mediterranean, and stayed there for a year. He enjoys doing things that aren't typically for the rich, though he has a lot to learn about how real people live. He's always friendly to all people, and can't imagine people who would do him wrong since he's so well liked. However, he knows there are cruel people in the world, some who would seek to hurt his family and friends, which is something he won't stand for.
The Chagny pride does indeed run in his veins. He's proud of his wealth, sure, but mostly his heritage. He and his family descend from old Counts of the French aristocracy. Raoul can trace his family back to when they were still called "de" Chagnys, before the branches of their family began to settle all over the world. He would defend his family if any bad word said against them, especially his brother, who he looks up to and admires greatly. However, as stated before he doesn't always agree with Philippe, but we'll get to that later in his history.
When he does disagree with the elder Chagny, however, his stubborn nature rears its ugly head. Pride has a lot to do with it, but he's stubborn mostly not when he doesn't have something he wants, but when information or trust is being denied to him. He wants to be an adult, but even though he's already 19 he still feels like he's treated like a child. His decisions are always made for him, and while he does go along with him, he privately just wishes people would ask him what he wants. Still, it's usually the same thing people want for him, so he doesn't complain too much. Because of his obsession with being in the "know," however, he has a pretty bad habit of eavesdropping on people's conversations, so you probably shouldn't discuss things important you don't want him to know if he's near. He doesn't do it on purpose, he just gets excited when there's a chance for him to be privy to information he wouldn't normally get elsewhere.
Raoul doesn't have many good friends, and that's mostly because he's not as worldly mentally as some of his other classmates. They call him Marie, as stated before, and often exclude him from things without his knowledge because he has a sickeningly sweet optimism and view of the life that isn't often found in the rich brats of the world. That being said, he's still friendly toward people. He just doesn't get close to them because the only true friends he has and needs are his family. However, there is one friend that he made when he was little he'd like to have back...
Besides being socially awkward and not good at making friends, Raoul is a bit more spoiled than he realizes. He's seriously used to getting his way all the time, though he doesn't take advantage of it. It just means he believes that things just automatically get better with a snap of the fingers (or change purse), never having experienced otherwise. He's also a bit whiny when he's in an uncomfortable situation. If he's forced into a crowded room he'll constantly wonder where the exit is, or try to move away from people talking to him because he's so overwhelmed. He has a very effective pouting face when he wants something, though it works mostly on his brother and his sisters (his aunt is a little more strict and less likely to bend). Everyone simply finds him so adorable that he has no trouble being handed things on a silver platter.
Because of his upbringing, despite liking the lower classes and being interested in their lifestyles, he is quick to judge a person by how they look and assume if someone looks bad, they are bad. He isn't really mean or anything, he just sort of eyes people suspiciously and walks the other way, very much scared for his own life if need be. On the other side of the coin, if someone looks nice, to him they probably are, so he trusts anyone who nice and caring to him, despite their ulterior motives. He's also quick to jump to the wrong conclusions about a situation without first gaining information, despite his love of it. He's a bit hypocritical in this sense, and tends to take after his brother when it comes to these things.
Overall however, Raoul is a very sweet boy who just wants to be a part of something. When he does meet someone who will be his friend, he will protect them to the bitter end, as he would protect his own family. He'll talk to people when he's interested, but sometimes he can be a little lonely. He states the obvious a little too much, but that's mostly because he's just so amazed at what life has to offer. He's a very curious young man, and that often gets him into trouble. One would comment that he's very much tied to the apron strings, and that's mostly the truth, since it's only just now that he's going out on his own and doing what he wants to do. What that is, however, is usually a mystery, even to him.

Goals, fears: His main goal is to find a friend who doesn't see him for just being rich, but rather for himself. It would be nice to have a romance eventually too, because his sisters are so happily married.
Raoul is afraid of losing his family, but not too afraid of losing his wealth (though if he did lose it he would realize how mistaken he was). He's also afraid of losing people's trust, or being wrong about people, because he prides himself on his good intuition.
Overall History: Raoul Marius Chagny is a French born aristocrat, to put it lightly. As a young boy he was afforded every luxury in the world, and doted on by both his mother and his siblings. His father, Philibert owned both a shipbuilding company that specialized in providing for the French Navy and a great deal of land that was profitable. The family is descended from French nobility, and holds key positions in the French government today, and thus with their vast amounts of wealth Raoul has never wanted for anything.
As a boy, Raoul often played with his sisters, who were ten and eight years older than him, respectively, for lack of anyone better to keep company with. His brother, Philippe, was twenty years old when the younger Chagny was born, and thus was beginning to learn their father's business in the expectation that he would take over one day. They hardly had anything in common, no matter how much Raoul looked up to his handsome and responsible older brother. He had no huge expectations on his own shoulders, and thus had nothing better to do than play girlish games with his sisters and be doted on by whoever came near him. His spinster aunt was the one who raised him, in his lack of a mother. He was spoiled, rambunctious, but undeniably kind-hearted.
Most Influential Event: Most definitely his meeting of Kristine Day when he was younger. It was just around the time his father died, so that made meeting his new friend even more important.
